As you embark on the process of settling your divorce by mediation, collaborative law, or constructive negotiation, the following forms will help facilitate the process as smoothly as possible.
It is helpful to gather the following documents for your meeting with a divorce attorney
- Your 2 most recent years’ income tax returns, including W-2s
- if either spouse operates a business which files its own income tax returns, the 2 most recent years’ business income tax returns
- most recent statements relating to any and all retirement accounts such as pension plans, 401(k) plans, IRAs, etc.
- if either spouse has a defined benefit pension (entitlement to a certain income upon reaching a certain age) please provide the most recent statement of entitlement from the plan administrator. This should include a statement about when you began to work for the employer, when benefits will begin to be paid, how much you will receive monthly, etc.
- most recent statements of all bank accounts
- most recent statements of all securities accounts
- any other statements showing the value of other investments
- most recent statements for credit card debts [or a list of the names of the creditors, the balance due, and whose name the debt is in]
- statement showing the principal balance due on any mortgages or home equity loans
- a copy of the deed to any real property you own
- If you have obtained an appraisal or market analysis of any real estate you own, even if it is informal, share these
- If you have a prenuptial agreement, share this
- If there have been any court orders relating to your marriage (such as a domestic violence restraining order or a support order), share these
